In the late summer of 2017, the life of David Paul Peden, a 57-year-old male, was brought to an abrupt and violent end in Jackson, Mississippi. On August 12th, he was discovered unresponsive inside a room at the Hilltop Inn and Suites. When authorities arrived, they pronounced him dead at the scene. An initial investigation quickly revealed the grim reality of his demise; Peden had sustained two gunshot wounds, one to his head and another to his upper torso, leading the Jackson Police
Department to classify his death as a homicide.
The investigation into the murder of David Peden swiftly gained momentum as detectives began to piece together the events that transpired. Surveillance footage from the motel became a crucial element, capturing images of individuals believed to be connected to the crime. This evidence led to the identification and subsequent arrest of three suspects. The first to be taken into custody was Quantineahia Webster, a 23-year-old woman who was charged with capital murder.
Further examination of the surveillance tapes revealed two additional individuals. One was identified as 16-year-old Cedric Mitchell, who also faced a charge of capital murder. The third suspect, 26-year-old Darrius D. Thomas, was later apprehended by U.S. Marshals and charged with murder. Investigators also determined that the suspects had fled the scene in a red pickup truck, which was later located by Madison County sheriff's deputies, providing another piece of evidence in the unfolding case. While these arrests marked significant progress in the investigation, law enforcement continued to seek any additional information from the public.
