In the spring of 2018, the life of 32-year-old Dexter Morris, a Black male, was tragically cut short on the streets of Greenville, Mississippi. On the evening of May 9th, violence erupted in the 400 block of Maple Street, leaving Morris with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, his life taken in a sudden and brutal act.
The chaos of that night did not end with Morris's death.
Another man, 39-year-old Christopher Beal, was also struck by gunfire during the same incident. Beal was rushed from the scene to receive medical attention and was eventually airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Beal succumbed to his injuries, making him the second victim of the violent encounter on Maple Street.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, the Greenville Police Department launched an investigation into the killings of Morris and Beal. However, the case has remained a difficult one to solve. To date, investigators have not publicly identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting. The case is one of several unsolved homicides that occurred in Greenville that year, leaving the community and the families of the victims waiting for justice. The Greenville Police Department continues to seek information from the public that might lead to a breakthrough in the investigation and bring closure to the loved ones of Dexter Morris and Christopher Beal.
