On a tragic Tuesday morning, June 19, 2018, the community of Biloxi, Mississippi, was shaken by the violent death of a well-regarded local pharmacist. Daniel 'Dan' Triplett Day, a 55-year-old Caucasian male, was fatally shot at his place of business, the Woolmarket Pharmacy. The incident, which unfolded into a murder-suicide, also resulted in the death of the perpetrator.
Daniel Day was the owner of both the Woolmarket Pharmacy and TD Pharmacy in nearby Gulfport. He was known as a compassionate and community-oriented man, often delivering prescriptions to those who couldn't leave their homes and even mowing lawns for some of the elderly residents in the area. His dedication extended to his instrumental role in establishing the St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy, where he committed over two decades to serving the homeless and less fortunate.
The Biloxi Police Department identified the shooter as Sarah Chance, who had been an employee at the pharmacy intermittently for about three years. On that fateful morning, Chance entered the pharmacy with a gun. According to a witness, a gunshot was heard shortly after her arrival. Chance shot and killed Daniel Day before turning the weapon on herself.
The investigation by the Biloxi Police concluded that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. As Sarah Chance died at the scene, there were no arrests or subsequent legal proceedings in connection with Daniel Day's death. The motive behind her actions remains unclear, leaving a community to mourn the sudden and senseless loss of a man remembered for his kindness and unwavering service to others.
