A dispute over money at a Biloxi motel escalated into a tragic sequence of events that left multiple people dead, including 51-year-old Mohammad Moeini. On April 27, 2022, Moeini, the owner of the Broadway Inn Express, was shot and killed at his business on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Born in Iran, Moeini had been a resident of Gulfport for 25 years and was known as a hardworking businessman and a devoted family man.
The incident at the Broadway Inn Express also claimed the lives of two others: 61-year-old Laura Lehman, a property manager at the motel, and 55-year-old Chad Green, a maintenance worker. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted at the waterfront motel. The gunman, identified as 32-year-old Jeremy Alesunder Reynolds, was reportedly involved in a confrontation with Moeini and the two employees before the shooting.
Following the initial shooting, Reynolds fled the scene, carjacking and fatally shooting 52-year-old William Waltman, a public works employee, in nearby Gulfport. Reynolds then barricaded himself inside a convenience store, leading to a lengthy standoff with police. The standoff concluded when law enforcement entered the store and found Reynolds deceased. Authorities later stated that Reynolds died from smoke inhalation from a fire he set during the standoff. Moeini, remembered as a kind and gentle man, was also a well-regarded poker player in the local community.
