In the late hours of a warm Friday night in Collins, Mississippi, the celebratory atmosphere of a back-to-school event was shattered by sudden violence. On August 3, 2018, 18-year-old Dementric Fairley was attending the gathering at the City of Collins Depot when he was fatally wounded. The young man, a male, was discovered on the ground with a single gunshot wound to his head.
