In the autumn of 2018, a visit to a relative's home in Clarksdale, Mississippi, turned tragic for 38-year-old Lakisha McGee. On the evening of October 29th, two intruders forced their way into the residence on Cheyenne Street by kicking in the front door and immediately opened fire. McGee was struck by the gunfire and succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Inside the home at the time of the violent intrusion were several other people, including her 29-year-old cousin, Jeremy McGee,
another adult female, and at least four children. Jeremy McGee was also hit by multiple gunshots. Despite his serious injuries, he managed to escape the house and seek help from a neighbor. He was subsequently transported to a medical center in Memphis for treatment. The other woman and the children present in the home were not physically harmed during the attack.
The Clarksdale Police Department launched an investigation into the deadly home invasion. However, in the immediate aftermath and in subsequent reports, authorities had not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. No suspects were publicly identified in the killing of Lakisha McGee. The incident was part of a string of six separate shootings that occurred in Clarksdale over a 52-hour period, though police did not immediately confirm if the events were related.
