In the early morning hours of New Year's Day 2024, the life of 31-year-old Deshara Shira Smith was tragically cut short in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at a residence on Lynn Street shortly after 3 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Smith deceased on the kitchen floor, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into the death of the female victim quickly focused on her boyfriend, Marquel Miles.
In a significant development in the case, Miles later surrendered himself to the Clarksdale Police Department. Following his surrender, he was taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of homicide.
After being formally charged, Marquel Miles was transported to the Coahoma County Justice Complex to await his initial court appearance.
