In the early morning hours of January 16, 2019, the life of 25-year-old Christopher Eugene Collins was tragically cut short in Jackson, Mississippi. The incident unfolded around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Robinson Street and Green Avenue, in close proximity to Poindexter Elementary School. It was here that Collins was discovered suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Collins was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for
medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Witnesses in the area reported hearing several gunshots, but no one saw the individual who fired the weapon. The death of Collins marked the seventh homicide in the city of Jackson for that year.
The Jackson Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.
