In a tragic turn of events on a late Saturday night in February 2019, a dispute between roommates in a Saucier, Mississippi mobile home escalated into a double homicide, leaving a young man and a toddler dead. Twenty-year-old David Garcia was shot and killed during the altercation. The incident, which occurred on Riceville Road, also claimed the life of a 2-year-old boy.
Authorities arrested Billy Roberts, the 34-year-old father of the deceased child, in connection with the deaths. The conflict reportedly began after an argument, fueled by alcohol, between Roberts and Garcia. Two families, each consisting of a man, a woman, and a child, resided in the home.
According to reports, the argument turned physical. Roberts claimed that he acted in self-defense against Garcia. He stated that after shooting Garcia, he fired another shot to ensure he was no longer a threat. Roberts alleged that the shooting of his own son was accidental.
When Harrison County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call, they discovered the bodies of Garcia and the toddler inside the residence. Billy Roberts was taken into custody and subsequently faced charges of first-degree murder and manslaughter. A judge set his bond at $1.5 million.
