On what should have been a day celebrating love, Valentine's Day of 2019 turned into a day of tragedy for Varga McCray, a 48-year-old woman from Jackson, Mississippi. On that day, she was found inside her home, having suffered from multiple gunshot wounds that ultimately led to her death. The incident shattered the peace of the community and left friends and family to mourn a life described as a 'ball of joy!'.

The investigation into her death quickly focused on her husband, Marcell Martin, who was 41 years old at the time. Authorities reported that he and his wife had been together on that fatal day and had gotten into an argument. Following the shooting, Martin reportedly fled from their home in a dark-colored car, sparking a search by law enforcement.

The search for Marcell Martin concluded with his apprehension, and he was subsequently brought to justice for his wife's murder. In a court proceeding, Martin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. For the shooting death of his wife, Varga McCray, he was sentenced to serve 25 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, bringing a legal conclusion to a case that began with a violent act on a day meant for love.
