In the spring of 2019, the life of 24-year-old Atavius Horton was cut short in a violent encounter in Lexington, Mississippi. A Black male, Horton was shot and killed on the morning of May 17, 2019, in the front yard of a home. The events leading to his death began with a dispute the previous night concerning another woman.
The investigation into Horton's death led authorities to Ashia Williams-Forrest. It was revealed that on the morning of the shooting, Williams-Forrest had been searching for Horton. Witnesses later testified that she had expressed her intent to kill him. She was also seen with multiple firearms in her vehicle that day. When Horton returned to her residence, the conflict escalated, and Williams-Forrest fatally shot him.
Following the investigation, Ashia Williams-Forrest was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Her case went to trial in Holmes County Circuit Court. After a three-day trial, the jury found her guilty of the charge. The court subsequently sentenced her to life in prison for the murder of Atavius Horton. An appeal of her conviction was later denied, affirming the original verdict and sentence.
