In a tragic and unforeseen act of violence, 23-year-old Morgan Landry of Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, lost his life in January 2020. Landry, a male who worked as a grill operator, was remembered for his loving and sweet nature, with a smile that could brighten anyone's day. His life was cut short when he and a group of friends were ambushed in the parking lot of the Bay Park Apartments.
On the evening of January 8, 2020, Landry, along with Cheyanne Schultz, 19, Andrew Rodgers, 22, and Sidney Foster, 24, were arriving at the apartment complex when they were met with gunfire. The alleged assailant, 23-year-old Jason Michel, had reportedly taken a shotgun from a relative's apartment within the same complex and opened fire on the unsuspecting group. The attack was described by law enforcement as a random and senseless act of violence, as it is believed the victims and the suspect were not acquainted with one another.
The shooting resulted in the death of Cheyanne Schultz at the scene. Morgan Landry was critically injured and transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning, January 9, 2020. Andrew Rodgers was also critically injured in the attack, while Sidney Foster sustained minor injuries.
Following the shooting, the assailant fled the scene in Landry's Pontiac Grand Prix. He then drove to a convenience store in Waveland where he carjacked a couple, stealing their white Chevrolet Silverado. The couple was not harmed during this second carjacking. The suspect then drove to his mother's home in the Bayside Park community of Hancock County. It was his mother who ultimately alerted law enforcement, reporting that her son was covered in blood and in possession of a shotgun. This led to his subsequent arrest.
