On the early morning of October 18, 2020, a violent incident occurred in Jackson, Mississippi, claiming the life of 34-year-old Alveriso Davis. A Black male described by loved ones as a caring father and husband, Davis was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle on Woodside Drive in southwest Jackson when the shooting took place. Around 3:00 a.m., gunfire erupted, striking him multiple times.
The vehicle he was occupying had reportedly been listed as stolen, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation that unfolded at the scene.
Davis was not the only individual targeted during the ambush. Marvin Farrow, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the same vehicle, also sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack. While Davis succumbed to his injuries, Farrow survived the shooting, though he was left in critical condition with severe injuries. The sudden violence left the community mourning Davis, who was known by nicknames such as "King Jank Medicine" and "Mon," and was remembered as a thoughtful friend and the life of the party.
The Jackson Police Department launched a homicide investigation immediately following the discovery of the victims. Detectives worked to piece together the events of that morning, eventually identifying a suspect in connection with the double shooting. Police arrested 31-year-old John Peterson, charging him with murder regarding Davis's death and aggravated assault for the shooting of Farrow. Reports indicated that Peterson faced additional unrelated charges as well, marking another significant arrest during a year that had seen a rising toll of homicides within the city.
