In the winter of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in Jackson, Mississippi, leaving two teenagers dead and another wounded. The incident unfolded on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the intersection of West Street and Mitchell Avenue. Inside a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier that day, 18-year-old Carlos Stewart and 14-year-old Marlin Thompson were struck by a hail of bullets. Stewart sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the neck, while Thompson was shot in the head.
A third individual in the car, a 17-year-old, was also injured in the attack.
The deaths of the two young men prompted an investigation by the Jackson Police Department. Less than two weeks later, on February 11, 2021, authorities announced an arrest in the double homicide. Lonzarius Bell was taken into custody in connection with the killings of Stewart and Thompson.
