In the small town of Fayette, Mississippi, a violent encounter on a Friday afternoon shattered the community's peace. On July 23, 2021, Kevin Lamont Hill, a 48-year-old male, was fatally shot while sitting in his car in the 1100 block of Main Street. The incident unfolded in broad daylight, at approximately 3:00 p.m., with law enforcement officers happening to be on patrol nearby.
The sound of multiple gunshots drew the immediate attention of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office
deputies, who witnessed the tragic event. Within moments of the shooting, they were able to apprehend a suspect at the scene. The individual taken into custody was identified as 18-year-old Jonathan Young, also a resident of Fayette. Hill was pronounced dead at the scene from the gunshot wounds he sustained.
