Jermaine Laville Summage, a 35-year-old male, was fatally shot on August 14, 2021, in Arcola, Mississippi. The incident occurred on Main Street, just outside a small local shop where Summage was sitting and socializing with others.
On that day, a maroon SUV came to an abrupt stop in front of the gathering. A man, later identified as 47-year-old Lonnell Moore, Sr. of Hollandale, exited the passenger side of the vehicle. Moore walked directly up to Summage and shot him at point-blank range. In the immediate aftermath, Moore attempted to shoot another man who tried to intervene, but the firearm appeared to malfunction.
Two eyewitnesses then attempted to apprehend Moore. However, his son, Lonnell Moore, Jr., approached them with a gun, threatening them and demanding his father's release. The witnesses complied, and both Moore Sr. and his son fled the scene. Responding law enforcement officers were given the suspect's information and were able to locate and arrest Lonnell Moore, Sr. a short time later.
Lonnell Moore, Sr. was subsequently indicted for Murder and Attempted Murder. In April 2023, he appeared in the Circuit Court of Washington County and pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Witness Intimidation. He was sentenced to forty years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with thirty-five years to serve and the remaining five years on Post-Release Supervision.
