In the early evening of January 4, 2022, Demarcus McGinnis, a 14-year-old male, was fatally wounded in a shooting in Jackson, Mississippi. McGinnis was a student at Blackburn Middle School.

The incident occurred at the Eagle Gas Station located at the corner of Capitol Street and Ellis Avenue. McGinnis was seated inside a vehicle with three other teenagers, two 17-year-olds and a 15-year-old, when the car was fired upon.
