In the autumn of 2022, a night of community celebration at a high school homecoming football game in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, took a tragic turn, ending in the death of 20-year-old LaTravious Williams. On September 23, 2022, Williams was a passenger in a car with his mother and sister when he was struck in the head by gunfire. The family had just left the football game, where an exchange of words had reportedly occurred between Williams and a group of young men.
