On a late March day in 2018, a violent confrontation in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, ended the life of 48-year-old Roger Darnell Jenkins of Jackson. The tragic events unfolded on March 29th, when Jenkins was fatally shot during an altercation at a local residence. Another individual, Shuronda Robinson, was also shot but survived her injuries. The male victim, Jenkins, succumbed to the gunshot wounds he sustained.
The incident led to the arrest of Luther Charles Rhymes, who was 61 years
old at the time. An investigation by the Copiah County Sheriff's Department suggested that the shooting was the result of a dispute between Rhymes, his girlfriend Robinson, and Jenkins. Authorities believe that Jenkins and Rhymes exchanged gunfire during the altercation.
Following the incident, Rhymes was treated for a gunshot wound to the stomach before being taken into custody. He faced multiple charges, including murder, aggravated domestic violence, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The motive for the deadly confrontation was not made immediately clear by investigators.
