In the pre-dawn hours of September 28, 2022, Daimian Keontae Britt, a 27-year-old male, was fatally shot in what law enforcement described as an ambush. The incident occurred at 5:59 a.m. in the parking lot of the Westwood Park apartment complex in Eupora, Mississippi. Britt had just left his girlfriend's apartment and was preparing to go to his job as a logger when he was shot multiple times. His girlfriend discovered him on the ground, barely breathing, but he succumbed to his injuries before emergency medical services could arrive.
Investigators with the Eupora Police Department, assisted by the Webster County Sheriff’s Department, determined that a 9mm handgun was used in the shooting. The police chief suggested the assailant may have been hiding in a wooded area near the parking lot, waiting for Britt to emerge from the apartment. Although witnesses reported hearing the gunshots, no one saw the shooter.
The investigation has been hampered by a lack of clear evidence. Security camera footage captured the incident, but due to the darkness, the video is not clear. The footage shows muzzle flashes, Britt falling to the ground, and an individual running from the scene. The police released a still image of the fleeing person, but it does not reveal any distinguishing features or the individual's face.
As of early October 2022, no arrests had been made in connection with the murder of Daimian Keontae Britt. The Eupora police were questioning individuals as part of their ongoing investigation into the killing. Britt, known to friends and family as 'Joe-Joe,' was a father to four children.
