In the late hours of a November weekend in 2022, a bonfire gathering at Wells Ranch in Yazoo County, Mississippi, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 27-year-old Christopher Turnage. The male victim, a resident of Yazoo County, was among a group of people who had come together for what was supposed to be a social event. However, a dispute erupted during a dice game, escalating quickly and tragically.
Gunfire broke out, and in the ensuing chaos, seven people were struck by bullets.
Christopher Turnage sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The other six victims suffered injuries of varying severity, including gunshot wounds to the shoulder, hand, and arm. One woman was critically injured after being shot in the head.
The Yazoo County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Initially, the chaotic nature of the scene made it difficult to identify any suspects. However, their efforts led to a significant development on November 21, 2022, with the arrest of 25-year-old Johnny Lee House of Camden, Mississippi. House was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Christopher Turnage's death. Investigators have also considered the possibility that there may have been more than one shooter involved and have explored whether the incident was a retaliatory act stemming from a previous murder.
