In the winter of 2021, the life of 31-year-old Tommie Lee Warren, known to many as 'Tom Tom,' was tragically cut short in his hometown of Philadelphia, Mississippi. On the evening of December 27th, while at his home on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Warren was struck by a stray bullet. He had simply opened his front door to accept a pizza delivery when gunfire erupted nearby. The fatal shot was the unintended consequence of a shootout between two rival gangs in the vicinity.
Warren, a local rapper and producer who went by the name 'Air Teezy,' was not the intended target.
Tommie Lee, a husband and a father to two young children, was remembered by his family and friends as a positive and vibrant presence in their lives. His wife, Brittney Warren, described him as a man with a 'bubbly spirit' who was the 'brightest light in a dark situation.' He was deeply involved in the lives of his children, never missing a doctor's appointment or a school event. Beyond his family, he was a budding entrepreneur, having incorporated his business, AirTeezy Entertainment LLC, earlier that year. The community was left to grapple with the senseless loss of a man who, ironically, had previously spoken out against the kind of violence that ultimately claimed his life.
In the wake of the shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department launched an intensive investigation. Their efforts led to the arrests of numerous individuals connected to the shootout. Initially, six people were taken into custody, with charges ranging from murder and aggravated assault to accessory after the fact. The number of arrests eventually grew to twelve, with seven of those individuals facing murder charges. Among those charged with murder were Dartavion Boyd, Jakyenzie Wilson, Jacoria Reynolds, and Zykeus Macon. Other individuals arrested in connection with the incident included Meroski Harrington and James Carter. The numerous arrests underscored the authorities' commitment to seeking justice for Warren and his grieving family.
