On October 28, 2010, Laurel Leah Parry, aged 46, was found dead in Oakland, California. Her death was one of 94 homicides recorded in Oakland that year. The city had been grappling with a high rate of violent crime, and Parry’s murder was part of a wave of incidents that affected numerous families and communities across Oakland.
