In the autumn of 2014, the life of 27-year-old Destiny Marie Poplawski was tragically cut short in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On November 6, her body was discovered lying next to a car in the 3900 block of West 57th Street South. Initially, the cause of her death was not immediately apparent as there were no obvious signs of trauma. However, the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's office later determined that Poplawski, a female college student and gifted artist, had died from a single gunshot wound from a
small caliber bullet, leading the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office to classify her death as a homicide.
The investigation into her murder quickly gained momentum, and within weeks, authorities identified four individuals in connection with the crime. On November 26, 2014, prosecutors filed first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon charges against Steven Ramey, Brenna Tecumseh, Kristie Beavers, and Fred Wesley. Investigators believe the group had been moving between different safe houses to evade capture before ultimately separating and fleeing to Texas.
A coordinated effort between law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma and Texas led to the apprehension of all four suspects. Steven Ramey and Brenna Tecumseh were arrested at a home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Kristie Beavers and Fred Wesley were tracked down and taken into custody in Texas City, Texas. Another individual, Shantell Crawford, was also arrested in Texas on an outstanding material witness warrant related to the case. The collaborative work of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, Creek County Sheriff's Office, and law enforcement in Texas was crucial in bringing the suspects into custody to face the charges against them.
