In the late hours of April 20, 2015, the life of 18-year-old Christopher Xavier Johnson, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Midwest City, Oklahoma. A junior at Star Spencer High School, Johnson was found with a fatal gunshot wound, lying face down in the southbound lane of North Spencer Road near Northeast 15th Street. The discovery was made around 11:30 p.m.
by authorities responding to a 911 call.
Investigations by the Midwest City Police Department suggested that Johnson had been at ESA Park shortly before the shooting. It is believed he was walking home from Spencer when he was shot, collapsing in the roadway moments before the emergency call was made. This incident marked the first homicide in the city for 2015. In the initial stages of the investigation, police sought a person of interest who may have been driving a silver or gray extended cab pickup truck seen in the area just before the shooting.
The death of Christopher reverberated through his community, particularly at Star Spencer High School, where grief counselors were made available to support students and staff. As the investigation continued, authorities urged the public to come forward with any information. Eventually, the Midwest City Police Department announced that an arrest had been made in connection with the homicide.
