In the autumn of 2015, a man's life was tragically cut short in Tulsa, Oklahoma, due to a misunderstanding that escalated into violence. Vallon DeWayne Broadus, a 44-year-old male, was fatally shot on the evening of October 21, 2015. The events of that night were set in motion by a misguided attempt to locate a missing woman.
Ike Frank Nicholson, Jr., along with his girlfriend, Carrie Lira, had traveled to Tulsa from Bethany under the belief that Lira's sister, Kelli, was being held
against her will by Broadus. Acting on this erroneous information, they, along with an acquaintance named Antwuan Adamson, waited for Broadus at a residence in Tulsa. When Broadus arrived and parked his car in the driveway, Nicholson, armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, confronted him.
As Nicholson approached the vehicle, he brandished the shotgun and demanded that Kelli exit the car. In the ensuing moments, Nicholson fired the weapon, striking Broadus. The car then rolled backward and came to a stop after hitting a post. It was later discovered that Kelli was not, and had never been, in Broadus's car.
Following the shooting, Nicholson and Lira fled the scene. An investigation was launched, and the two were later apprehended in Oklahoma City. Nicholson was subsequently charged with murder. During his trial, he claimed that the shooting was unintentional and that his goal was only to intimidate Broadus into revealing Kelli's whereabouts. Despite his claims, a jury found Ike Frank Nicholson, Jr. guilty of second-degree murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison.
