In the winter of 2015, the life of 18-year-old Ruben Rodriquez was cut short in Oklahoma City. On December 2nd, Rodriquez and an associate, Christian Navarro, were involved in criminal activity at an apartment complex situated on W. I-240 Service Road. During the course of this event, Rodriquez sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Following the shooting, the two attempted to escape in a vehicle. Their flight was brief, however, as they were soon involved in a car crash.
First responders discovered the injured Rodriquez inside the wrecked vehicle. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath, Christian Navarro, who had fled the scene of the crash, was apprehended by the Oklahoma City Police Department. While Navarro was not the individual who shot Rodriquez, he was charged with felony murder. This charge was based on the legal principle that his participation in a felony crime directly led to a death. The identity of the person who fired the shot that killed Ruben Rodriquez remains unknown to law enforcement, and the case marked the 83rd homicide in Oklahoma City for that year.
