On a late spring day in Guthrie, Oklahoma, a dispute turned fatal, leaving a family to mourn and a community in shock. Jeffrey Jordan Pennington, a 42-year-old Caucasian male, was shot and killed on May 30, 2016. Remembered by loved ones as a generous and helpful man with a passion for fixing and trading motorcycles, his life was cut short in a violent roadside encounter.
The tragic events unfolded at the intersection of State Highway 33 and Post Road.
Pennington, accompanied by two passengers, was on his way to a storage unit belonging to his ex-girlfriend, Stacey Kennedy, to retrieve some of his personal belongings. Along the way, a confrontation occurred, escalating to a point where a single gunshot was fired, striking Pennington in the chest. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, his body discovered by deputies at approximately 6:30 p.m.
In the wake of the shooting, the Logan County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation that quickly identified two individuals of interest. Christopher Wade Sheldon, 37, was identified as the alleged shooter. Following the incident, both Sheldon and Kennedy, who was 46 at the time, left the scene. The investigation progressed when Kennedy walked into the Logan County Sheriff's Office to turn herself in and provide information regarding the fatal shooting.
Acting on the information, agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Payne County deputies located Sheldon at a residence in Ingalls, Oklahoma. He was taken into custody without incident on June 2, 2016, and was subsequently booked into the Logan County Jail for manslaughter in the first degree. Kennedy was also taken into custody and booked into the Payne County Jail, initially on an unrelated arrest warrant.
