In a tragic turn of events on a December day in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the life of Julius Irving Templeton, a 25-year-old male, was abruptly ended. On December 9, 2016, Templeton was fatally shot while attempting to intervene in an altercation. The incident occurred when another man was pointing a gun at his former girlfriend. Templeton’s attempt to de-escalate the volatile situation resulted in him being shot.
The man responsible for the shooting, Stefon Donte Wytch, fled the scene but
later turned himself in to the authorities. During his trial, Wytch claimed he acted in self-defense, believing Templeton was reaching for a weapon. However, prosecutors asserted that no weapon was found on Templeton's person. A jury ultimately found Wytch guilty of first-degree murder.
Following his conviction, Stefon Donte Wytch was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Julius Templeton. He also received an additional 10-year sentence for a related charge of pointing a weapon. In August 2019, the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals denied Wytch's appeal, upholding his conviction and sentence, and ensuring he would remain incarcerated for his actions.
