In the early morning hours of a Wednesday in Oklahoma City, police were called to a home in the northeast part of the city to investigate reports of gunfire. Inside the residence, they discovered the body of 44-year-old Vincense Dewayne Williams. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
As investigators began to piece together the events that led to the shooting, their focus turned to Williams's girlfriend.
After interviewing her, detectives arrested her on a complaint of first-degree murder in connection with his death. The case marked a somber start to the new year, with Williams being the city's first homicide victim of 2017.
In a separate and unrelated incident in June 2019, another Oklahoma City man, 24-year-old Vincense Dewayne Williams Jr., was fatally shot by police alongside Interstate 35. Officers were responding to calls about a man firing a weapon at vehicles traveling on the interstate.
Upon their arrival, two sergeants confronted Williams and ordered him to drop his gun. According to police accounts, Williams initially complied and put his hands up, but then he allegedly bent down, retrieved the firearm, and turned to face the officers. Both officers fired their weapons, striking Williams. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The two officers involved were placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting was investigated. Authorities reported that no vehicles were struck by gunfire during the incident.
