On a late June evening in Oklahoma City, the life of 35-year-old Shomari Ray Parks was tragically cut short. On June 29, 2017, Parks was the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded in the southeastern part of the city, where he was found with a gunshot wound.
Responding to the scene, emergency personnel provided immediate medical attention to Parks before he was transported to a local hospital.
Despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The initial investigation into his death was launched by the Oklahoma City Police Department, who began to piece together the events that led to the city's 37th homicide of the year.
In the days that followed, homicide detectives worked to identify a suspect in the shooting. Their investigation led them to 26-year-old Dayton Lister. Just under a week after Parks' death, on July 5, 2017, an arrest warrant was issued for Lister on a first-degree murder complaint. Later that same day, Lister was located and taken into custody by Oklahoma City police, bringing a swift development in the case of the untimely death of Shomari Ray Parks.
