In the early morning hours of October 4, 2017, the body of 38-year-old Jason Harris was discovered in the front seat of a Jeep parked on the inside shoulder of U.S. 169 near 31st Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Passersby had reported seeing the vehicle as early as 3:45 a.m., and when first responders arrived around 5:15 a.m., they found Harris deceased.
It was soon determined that he had been shot to death, marking the city's 68th homicide of the year.
Investigators initially faced a challenge in identifying the vehicle's owner as it had been recently sold for cash. However, they were able to track down the new owner, 29-year-old Dustin Baker of Claremore, who was determined to have been driving the Jeep at the time of the murder. Baker was subsequently arrested in connection with Harris's death.
In addition to Baker's arrest, the Tulsa Police Department identified 25-year-old Dillon Rose, also known as Ray Benson, as a person of interest in the shooting. At the time, Rose was also wanted for armed robbery in Creek County and was considered armed and dangerous. Authorities asked for the public's help in locating him, distributing his name and photo as they continued their investigation into the death of Jason Harris.
