In the early morning hours of August 25, 2011, a violent altercation outside the Canterbury apartment complex in Phoenix, Arizona, claimed the life of 35-year-old Carmela Jackson and two others. The shooting, which also left two other individuals wounded and hospitalized, unfolded around 3:30 a.m. near 23rd and Campbell avenues.
According to police reports, a verbal dispute between the victims and a group of suspects escalated tragically to gunfire. A neighbor who witnessed the events recounted seeing a car arrive and two men emerge before the shooting began. Inside the home at the time of the incident were four children, one of whom was an infant.
Authorities identified the suspects as a group of five Black males and one white female. Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in multiple vehicles and have yet to be apprehended. The Phoenix Police Department continues to investigate the triple homicide, and the suspects remain at large. In addition to Carmela Jackson, 26-year-old Nathaniel Holmes was also identified as one of the deceased victims. The identity of the third fatal victim was not publicly released pending family notification.
