In the early morning hours of October 14, 2018, a horrific chain of events unfolded in a north Tulsa home that would claim the lives of three people. Inside the residence were 27-year-old Ramon Marquise Brown, his seven-year-old daughter, Maziah Brown, and a family friend, 27-year-old Hosea Fletcher. The quiet of the morning was shattered by an act of brutal violence that would leave the community in shock.
Keenan Sean Burkhalter arrived at the home and shot all three occupants in the
head. In an attempt to conceal the crime, he then set the house on fire. A subsequent investigation by the medical examiner would reveal a chilling detail: both Ramon and his young daughter, Maziah, had smoke in their lungs, indicating they were still alive when the fire began to consume the home. The senselessness of the act and the profound loss of life sent ripples of grief through their families and the wider Tulsa community.
The investigation into the triple homicide led Tulsa police to two suspects: Keenan Burkhalter and Andrew Conard. Both men were arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson. During the trial, Andrew Conard took the stand to testify against Burkhalter, providing key evidence for the prosecution. The legal proceedings brought to light the heinous nature of the crime and the calculated actions of the perpetrators.
In May 2022, a jury found Keenan Burkhalter guilty on all counts. He was subsequently sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole, in addition to a 35-year sentence for arson.
