In the early morning hours of October 19, 2018, a dispute in the parking lot of a gentleman's club in Oklahoma City escalated to a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 29-year-old Jaz Royce Coulter, a Black male. The incident unfolded outside Night Trips on North Meridian Avenue, where Coulter was present with a friend after the club had closed for the night.

According to witnesses, Coulter and his friend were conversing with other people in the parking lot near a dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe. It was then that a physical altercation broke out between Coulter and another man, later identified as 30-year-old Harvey Booker. A witness reported hearing the sound of gunshots shortly after seeing Booker reach into his pocket during the fight. Coulter collapsed to the ground, having sustained gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Surveillance footage from outside the establishment reportedly captured the physical confrontation and a flash of light consistent with a gunshot. Following the shooting, the video showed Booker fleeing the scene on foot, running westbound on Vermont Avenue. He was then seen getting into the same Chevrolet Tahoe that had been parked nearby. The SUV, driven by a woman, promptly left the area.

Law enforcement officials initiated an investigation that quickly led them to the two suspects. The driver of the getaway vehicle was identified as 32-year-old Jessica Villegas. Both Harvey Booker and Jessica Villegas were subsequently arrested and faced charges of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Jaz Royce Coulter.
