In the quiet hours of a winter morning in Oklahoma City, the life of 28-year-old Cornilius Nealy was tragically cut short. On February 2, 2019, Nealy was found fatally wounded in the 1300 block of Southeast 22nd Street. Responding to a call, emergency crews discovered him and another individual, Emonie Beasley, inside a vehicle, both having sustained gunshot wounds.
Nealy was pronounced dead at the scene, while Beasley was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The initial investigation by Oklahoma City police suggested that the shooting may have stemmed from a robbery. This theory gained traction as detectives delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Their efforts led them to identify two suspects in connection with the homicide. Warrants were issued for the arrests of 20-year-old Demario Sears and 27-year-old Jermaine Stephens on complaints of first-degree murder.
Within a few weeks of the fatal shooting, law enforcement was able to apprehend both suspects. On February 27, 2019, Demario Sears was taken into custody. The following day, Jermaine Stephens was also arrested, bringing a sense of progress to the investigation into Nealy's death. The quick succession of these arrests offered a glimmer of resolution to a senseless act of violence that had prematurely ended a young man's life.
