In the winter of 2019, a violent encounter in a Midwest City parking lot claimed the life of 43-year-old Tyrone Jones. A Black / African American man from Oklahoma City, Jones was fatally shot on December 20th outside of an Auto Zone. Witnesses at the scene described a heated argument between two men in the store's parking lot that tragically escalated to gunfire.
Jones sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the altercation.
Following the shooting, the suspect was seen escaping in a distinctive red pickup truck that had a black front fender. The investigation into Jones's death took a significant turn when law enforcement received an anonymous tip about the getaway vehicle. This crucial piece of information led detectives to the truck and subsequently to the identification of two suspects: Aliston Cobb, the vehicle's owner, and Cameron Watkins.
Further investigation into the motive behind the shooting suggested a premeditated act rooted in gang rivalry. According to court documents, Jones had a history with Cobb and was reportedly on a 'hit list' of a rival gang. It is alleged that Cobb coerced Watkins into carrying out the shooting, threatening Watkins's own life if he failed to comply. Evidence also indicated that the suspect's vehicle was present at the Auto Zone twenty minutes before Jones's arrival, and a phone call Jones received just prior to the incident has led investigators to believe he may have been set up. Both Cobb and Watkins were subsequently arrested and faced serious charges in connection with the murder of Tyrone Jones.
