In the small town of Mutual, Oklahoma, a sense of unease settled over the community on the night of April 15, 2020. That evening, Isidro Ortega Benites, a 38-year-old Hispanic male, was at a residence on North Maple Street. Just after 11 p.m., the sound of a single gunshot shattered the quiet, prompting a 911 call to the Woodward County Communications Center. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Benites suffering from a gunshot wound.
