In the early summer of 2020, the community of Woodward, Oklahoma, was struck by a tragedy that began with a missing person report and ended with the grim discovery of a young man's body. Trent Lee Shuman, a 24-year-old Caucasian male, was reported missing by a concerned relative on May 29, 2020. For weeks, his whereabouts remained a mystery, casting a shadow of unease over the small city. The search for Trent came to a heartbreaking conclusion on June 19, 2020, when his remains were found just east of Woodward, near Highway 412.
The discovery of his body marked the beginning of a homicide investigation led by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. An autopsy conducted by the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office determined that Trent Shuman had been shot to death. The ruling of his death as a homicide confirmed the community's worst fears and left his family and friends grappling with a devastating loss. Despite the ongoing investigation and efforts by law enforcement, the individual or individuals responsible for his death have not yet been brought to justice.
As time has passed, the case has remained in the public eye, largely due to the persistent efforts of the OSBI to generate new leads. In September 2022, authorities announced a $9,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in his murder. This appeal to the public for assistance underscores the challenging nature of the investigation. To date, no arrests have been made, and the case officially remains unsolved, leaving a community and a grieving family still searching for answers and closure.
