In what began as an act of help, a young man's life was tragically cut short in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lorenzo 'Enzo' Alvarado, a 22-year-old male, was fatally shot on March 4, 2021, while attempting to assist a woman involved in a domestic dispute.
The incident unfolded at a south Tulsa apartment complex where Alvarado and another woman had gone to help the woman leave her boyfriend.
As they were in their vehicle, Luis Ornelas, the 20-year-old boyfriend of the woman they were assisting, opened fire on them. Ornelas used a laser-sighted AR-15 rifle, firing into Alvarado's car.
Alvarado was struck by the gunfire and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Ornelas fled the scene but was later apprehended by the Tulsa Police. During questioning, Ornelas reportedly admitted to the shooting, stating that he had only intended to scare the occupants of the vehicle. He claimed he believed his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend was in the car.
Following the investigation, Luis Ornelas was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Lorenzo Alvarado. He also faced charges of shooting with intent to kill and domestic assault and battery.
