Adavion Herring was a 17-year-old Black male with a bright future as an athlete in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His mother, Princess Anderson, said she saw her son "going to the NFL, I saw him living out his dream." A talented player, Adavion was looking forward to the upcoming baseball season and his prom when his life was tragically cut short. His family remembered him as a bright and respectful young man who brought joy to those around him.
In the wake of his death, loved ones gathered for a balloon release to honor his memory and share stories of a life filled with potential.
In the early hours of February 15, 2025, Adavion was inside an apartment at the Brighton Park complex near 51st Street and Yale Avenue. Around 2:00 a.m., an assailant outside fired multiple shots through a bedroom window. Adavion was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene. Three other people who were in the apartment with him at the time were not physically harmed.
When Tulsa police officers arrived, they found Adavion deceased from gunshot wounds. During their initial investigation, officers learned from witnesses that two male suspects had been seen outside the apartment just before the shooting. Investigators recovered multiple shell casings from the scene and came to believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
The investigation quickly led to two juvenile suspects. Less than 12 hours after the shooting, officers located 17-year-old Siion Ferguson and another teenager in a car near 41st Street and Memorial Drive. Police reported that both were armed with handguns at the time. Ferguson was arrested on a complaint of first-degree murder, and authorities began working to determine the second juvenile's exact role in the incident.
The case against the two suspects proceeded in federal court. The defendants were ultimately convicted in connection with the fatal shooting of Adavion Herring. Following their convictions, they were sentenced to serve 35 years in prison.
