On September 4, 2011, Phoenix police responded to a call reporting an injured individual near 35th Drive and Marshall Avenue, just north of Camelback Road, around 5 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Eric Burwell, who had sustained multiple stab wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Burwell succumbed to his injuries two days later, on September 6, 2011.
