In the small town of Taft, Oklahoma, the annual Memorial Day festival, a long-standing tradition, turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy on May 29, 2022. Sherika Bowler, a 39-year-old Black female, was killed in a mass shooting that erupted just after midnight, abruptly ending the festive atmosphere that had drawn approximately 1,500 people. Seven other individuals, with ages ranging from nine to 56, were also wounded in the gunfire.
