Princess Stevenson, an 18-year-old Black female, was standing in the doorway of a home near Southeast 51st Street and East Avenue, holding her four-month-old infant son. She had reportedly gone to the residence to pick someone up. In a sudden burst of violence, a vehicle drove by, and an occupant opened fire on the house.
The gunfire struck both Princess and her baby.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle, but her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced deceased. Her infant son sustained a non-life-threatening graze wound to his foot and fortunately survived the horrific event. Neighbors in the area reported hearing a succession of 20 to 25 gunshots, a terrifying testament to the intensity of the attack.
