In the winter of 1994, the life of 20-year-old Calvin Payne Jr., a Black male, was tragically cut short in Racine, Wisconsin. On the morning of December 23rd, at approximately 10:58 a.m., Payne was walking in the 900 block of Peck Avenue when he was shot in the head. Despite the presence of several people in the immediate area at the time of the shooting, no witnesses have ever come forward.
Payne was rushed to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, where he fought for his life for five days.
He succumbed to his injuries and passed away on December 28, 1994. Born on November 22, 1974, Calvin was the son of Calvin Payne Sr. He was later laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery in Racine.
The investigation into Calvin Payne Jr.'s death has remained open for decades, yet no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case is considered a cold case, and authorities continue to ask for the public's help. The Racine Police Department and Racine County Crimestoppers have repeatedly appealed for anyone with information to come forward, offering the possibility of anonymity. Despite these efforts, the shooting of Calvin Payne Jr. remains an unsolved homicide, leaving his family still seeking justice.
