Craig Allen Birkholz, a 28-year-old police officer from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, tragically lost his life in the line of duty on March 20, 2011. Officer Birkholz and another officer responded to an emergency call at a home on South Lincoln Avenue around 6:00 a.m. Upon arrival, they approached the residence, where a suspect opened fire from the second floor, fatally wounding Officer Birkholz and injuring the other officer and a K9 unit^1^.
