On a summer evening in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 32-year-old Caucasian female Rebecca Wood’s life was tragically cut short. On July 13, 2016, near 28th and Clarke, Wood was shot and killed inside her vehicle during what began as a robbery. The mother of two was confronted by a group of men who intended to rob her. One of the men, Deanthony Bradley, pointed a gun at her head.
As she attempted to drive away, the gun discharged, firing a single bullet that resulted in two fatal wounds, one to her chest and another to her back. After being shot, her vehicle crashed into a nearby tree.
The ensuing investigation led to the arrest of four individuals: Deanthony Bradley, Jeremiah Flowers, Anton Mukes, and William Bounds. According to the criminal complaint, the four men had planned to commit a robbery. Flowers reportedly pointed out Wood to Bradley, encouraging him to rob her. A witness initially thought the interaction was a drug deal before realizing a robbery was in progress. Bradley admitted to police that he pointed the gun at Wood's head with his finger on the trigger and that it went off when she tried to flee the scene.
Following the shooting, one of the suspects went to Wood's vehicle and stole her purse. A witness yelled at the suspect, causing him to drop the purse. Police later found the purse and a $20 bill near Wood's body. The men ultimately got away with only $20, which they reportedly used to purchase cigarettes and "two bags of weed". One of the suspects, Bradley, even posted on Facebook after the crime, stating he had to "cut his fro and get low".
All four men faced charges in connection with the fatal robbery. Deanthony Bradley, the shooter, pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. William Bounds pleaded guilty to armed robbery and received a sentence of 17 years in prison. Jeremiah Flowers pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of theft from a person or corpse and was sentenced to four years in prison. The fourth man, Carlando Anton Mukes, who was Bradley's uncle, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon.
