In the early hours of a Saturday in Milwaukee, the life of 30-year-old Frederick P. Jackson, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On January 7, 2017, inside the walls of Brett's Farmhouse Tavern on the city's northwest side, a dispute escalated into fatal violence.
Shortly after midnight, a physical altercation broke out between Jackson and another man. The confrontation took a grim turn when the other individual produced a firearm.
A single shot rang out, striking Jackson. Despite immediate efforts to save him, his injuries proved fatal, and he died at the scene. In the immediate aftermath, the shooter fled, disappearing into the night in a dark-colored vehicle with tinted windows, leaving behind a scene of chaos and grief.
The investigation into Frederick P. Jackson's death led authorities to identify his friend, Vernon Nevlis, as the suspect. Nevlis was apprehended in Indianapolis. In May 2017, he pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree reckless homicide. For his role in the death of his friend, Nevlis was sentenced to nine years in prison, followed by six years of extended supervision. The violent incident, along with a subsequent shooting, ultimately led to the revocation of the tavern's liquor license in December 2017.
