On a Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee, the life of Kenneth G. Townsend, a 42-year-old Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On March 3, 2024, Townsend was fatally shot in an incident that also left two other men injured on the city's north side, near 54th Street and Silver Spring Drive. The shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m., and when first responders arrived, Townsend was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violent encounter, which Milwaukee police preliminarily
believe to be related to domestic violence, resulted in serious injuries to a 57-year-old man and a 34-year-old man. Both surviving victims were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. In a turn of events, the 34-year-old who was injured was subsequently taken into police custody in connection with the shooting.
As the investigation continues, charges against the man in custody are pending a review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. The community has mourned the loss of Townsend, who was born in Milwaukee on March 11, 1981. His family and friends gathered for his funeral services on March 16, 2024, to lay him to rest at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. Authorities have encouraged anyone with further information regarding the shooting to come forward.
