In the late hours of a September night in Appleton, Wisconsin, a life was tragically cut short, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved the victim. Annie Ford, a 48-year-old Black / African American woman, was killed on September 21, 2017, in a place she should have been safe. Her death was not a random act of violence but the culmination of a domestic dispute that spiraled into a fatal encounter.
The man responsible for her death was her boyfriend, Johnny Scott.
On that fateful night, tensions escalated between Ford and Scott within their shared residence. The arguments, reportedly centered around money and a television, grew in intensity throughout the evening. Police were called to the home on two separate occasions before the final, tragic confrontation. Despite these interventions, the conflict reached a deadly climax when Scott shot and killed Ford.
The investigation into Annie Ford’s death led to the arrest of Johnny Scott. He was charged with first-degree intentional homicide. In April 2021, Scott, then 62, pleaded no contest to the charge. This plea resulted in his conviction for the murder of his girlfriend. Following the conviction, the justice system handed down a mandatory life sentence to Scott for his crime. The court determined that he would be eligible to request parole, but only after serving a significant portion of his sentence, leaving the final decision of his potential release to a future date. The resolution of the legal proceedings brought a measure of closure to a case that began with a heated argument and ended in the senseless loss of a woman’s life.
